The Lionheart IndyCar Series presented by First Medical Equipment announced today that the series is making an immediate move to the new Dallara IR-18 IndyCar for its 2018 season.

“We pride ourselves on being the league everyone else looks to for Indy-style racing on iRacing,” series founder Jorge Anzaldo said. “This is a huge undertaking, with the season just two weeks away and over 40 members now needing to re-paint cars, not to mention the setup work our admin team led by Andrew Kinsella have done in the offseason.

“But we polled our members, and the vote was near unanimous: make the change.” surprised the community with the announcement late last week that the new IndyCar would make its debut this quarter. The car was released Tuesday to rave reviews from the Lionheart drivers and staff.

Lionheart will still run the Dallara DW-12 as a tribute to the driver the league is named after, Dan Wheldon, in the Lionheart All-Star Race presented by Von Hanson’s Meats on Wednesday, March 14 at Darlington Raceway.

“This league is dedicated to the memory of Dan Wheldon,” Anzaldo said. “We thought it was only fitting that our most exclusive event be a tribute to Dan and the legacy he’s left on motorsports safety, so we’re going to run the DW-12 one final time, in Dan’s honor.”

The IR-18 will then make its Lionheart debut in the season-opening First Medical Equipment 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on March 28.

Both events can be seen live on the Global SimRacing Channel at 10:35 p.m. EST.
