Autódromo José Carlos Pace in Brazil hosted the iRacing Blancpain Endurance Series this past weekend. Pulse Autosport drivers Justin Fortener and Ryan Schuld teamed up in the Mercedes AMG GT3 for the event and brought back a podium finish, securing P2 at the end of the 3 hour event.
Fortener qualified the car P3 and settled into 4th place early on, working his way up to P2 before the first round of pit stops and relinquishing the helm to Schuld after taking 4 fresh tires and a full tank of fuel.
Schuld would come out in P3, but regain the second position halfway through his stint. With 40 minutes remaining, the final pit stop and driver swap of the race saw the team take a gamble, opting for fuel only and asking for a little extra from Schuld’s set of Pirelli tires.
Back on track for the final run to the finish, the pit strategy would put Fortener back in second place and force a tight battle in the closing laps between himself and the #30 Ferrari of Patrick Christoph Moser. It was Moser winning the race back to the line on the last lap, but the position would be relinquished after the team was disqualified for violating the minimum driver time policy, giving P2 to the team of Fortener and Schuld.
“It was a great clean run for the Pulse Mercedes. Justin was a little quicker than myself, so he went two stints. We were quick all day, the winner was just in a class of their own. We’ll take the solid P2 podium and continue to work. Wins are coming for this team, and I can’t wait to be apart of it.” said Schuld.
The podium finish comes after a win for Justin Fortener, earned just two days prior in the Blancpain Sprint Series event. ” Yeah, it was a terrific week at Interlagos,” said Fortener. “From the start, the car was setup well and had speed. All around it was a good weekend for the team as we head into the 12hrs of Bathurst. It’ll be a tough race for sure but as long as we keep the car clean we should be there in the end.”
